There are so many beautiful spots in Davie and here is one that offers the best sense of nature and community you will find. In a Broward County preserve is a large tree that serves egrets, anhingas and other species of birds as a roost. As the sun begins to set, the birds begin to gather. Just before the sun drops below the horizon, it is difficult to see the tree or it's leaves beyond the amount of birds.

Over the past years even before the preserve was established, the birds have been attracted to this tree. Hurricane Wilma removed many of the branches and stripped the leaves but many of the birds still came 'home' for the night. When the park was being established, the lighting was a little bright and the birds did not like that atmosphere. Once the lights were toned down the birds came back and brought many friends.

Take an opportunity to visit this spot and bring your camera. Take Flamingo Road to S W 36 Court, go west and you will see the tree as you round the first curve.

Davie Open Space

Open space in Davie, Florida, is a major component of what makes Davie a special place to live. If your lifestyle includes bike riding, sports programs, birdwatching, or hiking then Davie offers all that and more. By the way, hiking in South Florida is not your average hiking. Land is all flat so you want to look for recreational trails that offer scenery at eye level. Ask me about the trails with some particularly interesting sites. Ride a horse or wanting to ride a horse? Many of the Davie trails have paved paths and equestrian trails side by side.

In the past few days, 1 new park opened to the public and 1 park was rededicated.

Citrus Park is 1 and 1/2 acres sitting where the center of the citrus groves used to exist. Before the land became so valuable, acres and acres of citrus covered the undeveloped sections of Davie. The smell of the orange blossoms in the spring was awesome. Citrus Park used to be a residence and a packing shed for harvesting the citrus. The shed would be the to-go place for orange or grapefruit juice or sending locally grown fruit to the relatives and friends up north. Now it is a popular refreshing green space with a picnic table and play equipment for the neighbors to gather. The property was purchased by a grant from Broward County and developed by the Town of Davie.

Veteran's Park is a 1/2 acre parcel on one of Davie's manmade lakes. New playground equipment was recently added, the landscaping was refurbished and a recent celebration in conjunction with Veteran's Day reopened the park with many veterans from the Town in attendance. A memorial given by one of the local chapters of past Veterans was also dedicated.
